5 Decluttering Ideas of the Week: August 30
I hope August has been a great month for you! To give you some decluttering ideas or motivation for the week, here are 5 items you can declutter this week!
Excess Phone Notifications: Unless it’s an important message or call, most notifications we get are unnecessary and distract us from what we’re doing in the moment. Go to your settings and turn off notifications for any apps that distract you or stress you out.
Books You’ve Read And Won’t Reread: Obviously, if you finished a book you didn’t like, you won’t reread it. But even if you did like it, are you realistically going to reread it? Sometimes we hold onto books we love but never pick them back up. If this is the case, why not pay it forward and re-gift it to someone who would love to read it too?
Old Light Bulbs: If you have any old lightbulbs that burned out or don’t work, why are you holding onto them? The disposal of these light bulbs varies by the type of light bulb. For example, traditional incandescent light bulbs can be thrown in the trash, while old CFL bulbs need to be disposed of elsewhere (our hardware store takes them!)
One-Holiday-Only Dishes: Seasonal dishware can look nice and festive, but can you justify holding onto something that is useless for 364 days each year? Prioritizing dishes that can be used year-round can take up much less space and help you keep your kitchen more organized.
Any Items That Make You Feel Guilty: This can include a multitude of items; gifts, cards, expensive items, and more. Whatever it is, if the idea of getting rid of it makes you feel guilty or brings negative emotions, it’s not helping you to keep it. It can be hard to get rid of it initially, but once it’s gone you can free yourself from those emotions!
